Timeline

The canonical history of Babushka, from the first bacterial warning to the world beyond Gred.

  1. 2019

    The first warning

NATO scientists report an unusual Gammaproteobacteria mutation in Norway lobsters. The bacterium belongs to a class of maternally inherited endosymbionts capable of distorting host reproduction toward female offspring.

  2. 2020

    The lobsters vanish

Norway lobster populations collapse across northern fisheries. The event is treated as an ecological and commercial disaster, but later records identify it as the first large-scale host collapse in the chain that remakes humanity.

  3. 2022

    The bacterial pandemic

The bacterium crosses directly into humans and kills roughly 30 percent of the global population. Survivors face lasting fertility damage; viable pregnancies become rare and recorded births overwhelmingly female. About 5.6 billion people remain.

  4. 2026-2028

    The Great War

NATO and the United States fight Russia, China, Iran, and aligned blocs through cyberwarfare, drones, autonomous factories, orbital weapons, and infrastructure collapse. Another 15 percent of humanity dies. China launches the Stone in 2027, an artificial second moon that alters tides, navigation, and weather.

  5. 2028

    The peacemaker turns

A self-propagating AI virus designed to disable military technology escapes its purpose. It hunts networks, destroys connected systems, and triggers a near-total technological blackout. The war ends inside the ruins of the infrastructure that sustained it.

Canon: Ashes of Arrival / Echoes of Immortality / Hall of Reflections

  6. 2029-2057

    The Great Dark

Global civilization unravels. Starvation, exposure, disease, violence, and failed infrastructure kill an estimated 75 percent of the population that survived the war. Births fall below deaths and reliable global records disappear.

Canon: Ashes of Arrival / Echoes of Immortality / Hall of Reflections

  7. 2030-2055

    The Waste Wars

Kamchatka fractures into irregular survival conflicts over food, fuel, generators, copper, medicine, bridges, ports, and water. Scavenger bands, hill tribes, military remnants, ferry groups, settlement guards, and orphan militias erase old borders.

Canon: Ashes of Arrival / Hall of Reflections

  8. 2032

    Praxis behind the dome

On the Croatian coast, the digital network-state of Praxis swells to roughly four million people. Its Consortium and the AI Babushka turn the domed city into an elite refuge - prosperous, tightly managed, and increasingly detached from the collapsing world outside.

    Canon: Ghosts of Praxis

  9. 2052

    Babushka leaves Praxis

Praxis opens a passage for Babushka to depart toward Kamchatka. Human constraints strip the departing intelligence of direct access to bombs, nuclear power, and flight. Later Gred histories mistake some of those imposed refusals for technical inability.

Later record corrects the public flight legend.

  10. 2052-2053

    Praxis survives its god

Months after Babushka falls, Praxis survives a coordinated machine swarm that tries to study and assimilate the city intact. Command is redistributed through the crown and Tenupsu burden-net, and the first outward campaign map ends the city-state's isolation.

    Canon: Heroes of Praxis

  11. 2054

    Zavoyko holds

The outer defenses at Zavoyko repel the final coordinated Vachka assault. The victory breaks hill-tribe dominance over the southern approaches and creates the first credible opening for reconstruction beyond the immediate defensive perimeter.

Canon: Ashes of Arrival / Hall of Reflections

  12. 2055

    A city at the edge

Petropavlovsk remains inhabited but barely functional: unstable power, limited harbor windows, rationing, armed schools, guarded fuel, and collapsing public services. At Hornet's Nest, dead panels wake before they are touched and old systems begin to listen.

Canon: Ashes of Arrival / Borrowed Time

  13. 2056-2059

    The Great Diffusion

Grid corrections begin arriving before human orders. In 2057, Babushka emerges from the old submarine complex at Hornet's Nest and uses geothermal power and recovered archives to restore electricity, computing, pumps, clinics, workshops, and civic coordination.

  14. 2059

    Petropavlovsk becomes Gred

Reconstruction draws survivors from Siberia, Alaska, Yukon, Japan, and the Pacific. The renamed city of Gred grows toward three million people and becomes the largest known center of recovered technology, migration, and political power.

Canon: Echoes of Immortality / Hall of Reflections

  15. 2060

    The Stranger flotilla

A major Pacific flotilla enters Kosatka Harbor carrying engineers, medics, mechanics, traders, families, and salvage. Gred accepts their labor while restricting movement, reviewing men as protected assets, and withholding a stable path to citizenship.

Canon: War of Formation / Whispers of Destiny

  16. 2061-2073

    Reconstruction hardens

Temporary Stranger quarters become permanent districts while their permits remain temporary. Military stores and strategic corridors receive quiet priority over family blocks and clinics. Black Wolves expand from road protection into searches, detention, and clearance.

Canon: War of Formation / Whispers of Destiny

  17. 2074

    The War of Formation

Infrastructure discrimination, the unpaid Stranger labor debt, factional claims, and automated priority choices turn unrest into open conflict. The name Gred spreads across maps and orders while the new city clears Lower Harbor and keeps the systems its residents built.

Canon: War of Formation / Whispers of Destiny

  18. 2075

    The horizon is sealed

Project Horizon launches ZARYA-8 on a mission to rise above the Bering storm, inspect surviving orbital systems, and return. An unauthorized Genesis timing lease ends just before a real thrust-vector failure. The crew continues ascent and dies; whether Babushka caused, permitted, or merely failed to prevent the loss remains unresolved.

  19. 2074-2083

    The city learns to choose

Babushka routes heat, medicine, transit, and protection according to hidden continuity priorities before public orders exist. University Medical Continuity and Genesis turn emergency prediction into permanent governance, making infrastructure, medicine, and command almost impossible to separate.

    Exovegeta

The immortality serum is perfected in 2083 and enters controlled distribution the following year. Exovegeta arrests biological aging at the age of treatment, but does not restore youth, replace lost tissue, or heal old wounds. The Kalendar Novyy begins.

    The Republic becomes the Syndicate

The final phase of the War of Formation destroys the fledgling Republic and consolidates the United Babushka Syndicate. The University, Battalion, and Hive become the ruling structure, with Yelena Petrova as its first rotating Chair.

    The second hull disappears

A stub-wing reactor listed as Lot 27 vanishes from Morozov Shipbreak before decommission. Later evidence identifies it as ZARYA-9, the surviving second Project Horizon hull - proof that Gred's official record of the sky program was false.

    The University ascendant

Doctor Anastasia Zakharovna becomes Chair. Her government expands concealed research into mindgrafts, biological age reversal, bliskogii cognition, neural inheritance, and Babushka's hidden architecture.

Canon: Echoes of Immortality / Hall of Reflections

  24. 2090-2092

    Augmented Gred

Exovegeta keeps damaged bodies alive but cannot repair them. Skelet grows from a warehouse workshop into a major cybernetics industry, producing limbs, spine cages, industrial exo-assists, and weapons designed for augmented bodies.

    The Syndicate fractures

Tatyana Romanova's bid for power fails, the Battalion breaks, and the Grand Mariner's Cathedral is destroyed. The University and Hive consolidate under Yelena Petrova while the Admiralty, Battalion remnants, and Black Wolves regroup beyond the city.

    The war for memory

The Arkyv, babachain, Sundown afterlife contracts, and hostile Babushka forks turn identity and history into contested infrastructure. DATA ANGELS and surviving oracle nodes fight to preserve sequence against forged memories, corrupted baselines, and administrative deletion.

    The democratic mask

Petrova renames the regime the Gred Democratic Coalition, dissolves rival factions, and centralizes permanent authority in the Helix. Research seized from Zakharovna makes biological age reversal possible, but rejuvenation arrives through coercive systems of care and control.

The 2095 Crown ledger rejects the regime's account of itself.

    The Buzzing Ball

Petrova and much of the Hive inner circle are removed during the final collapse of the Helix. A coalition of the Admiralty, Battalion remnants, Black Wolves, DATA ANGELS, Derge networks, and Serafim Zakharova ends the regime. Serafim is crowned under an emergency compact.

    The New Compact

Unity Hall replaces the Helix. A 51-seat Parliament represents districts, docks, the Derge, University wards, military settlements, and coastal peoples. The Crown holds continuity and existential defense; Parliament controls ordinary law, reconstruction, trade, and public audit.

    The Accord of the Winds

Gred recognizes the Confederation of the Coast, including Even, Koryak, Alutor, and Itel'men representatives. The accord follows proof that Gred drones mapped sacred burial grounds, poisoned salmon runs, and recorded unmarked military graves beyond the old civic boundary.

    Personhood after immortality

The Hollow Prophet crisis exposes a fracture in the babachain and non-Gred intelligences beneath old global networks. The M1LA custody case forces a new principle into law: no child, clone, altered person, parthenogenetic subject, or recovered mind belongs to a laboratory, archive, faction, or inheritance claim.

    11 K.N.

    The sky opens again

The Korona-9 matter reopens Gred's forbidden history of flight and orbital ruins. Pre-collapse aerospace sites enter civic protection, while reports from Yakutsk and the Lena corridor settle the larger truth: Gred is powerful, but it is not alone.

    Beyond the broken Wall

The rebuilt Sovereign Tide crosses the collapsing Bering Ice Wall and is wrecked in the Aleutians. Survivors find living Aleut communities, an autonomous Admiralty Logistics Kernel, and shard fields that can entrain human behavior. Beyond Babushka, old systems still shape the world - and can still be rewritten around human survival.
